Zohran Mamdani, the mayor of New York, said on Monday that he would likely encourage King Charles III of the United Kingdom to return the Koh-i-Noor diamond during a meeting with him. On the same day, Mamdani met and held talks with the British monarch.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the matter, and the New York mayor’s office did not respond to requests for clarification on whether Mamdani had raised the issue with Charles.
India has repeatedly called on Britain to return the 105-carat diamond in the past.
