The Associated Press, citing a knowledgeable source, reported that the U.S. Department of Defense has told lawmakers that clearing mines placed in the Strait of Hormuz is likely to take around six months.
According to the report, Pentagon officials raised the issue on Tuesday during a classified briefing before the House Armed Services Committee.
The source said many lawmakers’ questions during the session went unanswered, including inquiries about the cost, strategy, and objectives of the war with Iran.
Lawmakers also asked about a strike on an elementary school in Minab on the first day of the war, which reportedly went unanswered.
International media reports indicate that the U.S. military was responsible for the attack.
