Reuters, citing five informed sources, reported that the U.S. military has recently deployed a Ukrainian counter-drone technology called “Sky Mep” at a major airbase in Saudi Arabia.
The Prince Sultan Air Base, where the system has been deployed, was hit several times by drone and missile attacks in the early weeks of the war with Iran.
The deployment of this Ukrainian technology highlights the significant progress Ukraine has made in drone and counter-drone warfare systems, which have been tested in its four-year war with Russia.
According to Reuters, Ukrainian military officials recently visited the Prince Sultan Air Base to train U.S. forces on how to operate the “Sky Mep” system.
The system is widely used by the Ukrainian military to detect drone threats, including Iranian-made “Shahed” drones, and to carry out counterattacks using interceptor drones.
This comes despite U.S. President Donald Trump publicly rejecting an offer from his Ukrainian counterpart to assist in countering Iranian drone attacks during the conflict with Iran.
