Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, said yesterday that the Iranian government had planned to carry out another “Holocaust” and intended to destroy Israel with nuclear bombs and thousands of missiles.
“Holocaust” refers to the genocide of Jews during World War II.
Netanyahu added: “Had we not acted against this existential threat with determination and boldness, the names of the death sites, Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, could have joined the names of the extermination camps of the Holocaust: Auschwitz, Majdanek, and Treblinka.”
He said that, however, due to Israel and the United States “crushing the Iranian regime’s machine of destruction,” this did not happen and an “immediate existential threat” was removed.
The Israeli prime minister said that in every generation, “In every generation there are those who rise against us to destroy us. And this has happened in this generation as well.”
He added: “Throughout thousands of years of our existence, we have stood many times on the brink of annihilation. We were persecuted by our enemies. We paid heavy prices to defend our homeland and preserve our heritage.”
Israel and the United States launched a campaign against Iran on February 28 to eliminate or weaken the country’s military capabilities.
Netanyahu had previously said that as a result of this campaign, Israel had become stronger and Iran weaker.
