Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, strongly condemned the destruction of a Catholic religious symbol by an Israeli soldier and claimed that Christians are being killed by Muslims in Syria and Lebanon, while they are flourishing in Israel.

He added that Israel is the only country in the region where the living conditions and population of Christians are growing. Netanyahu said: “Israel is the only place in the Middle East that adheres to freedom of worship for all.”

Recently, an image circulated on social media showing an Israeli army soldier in southern Lebanon breaking a statue of Jesus Christ.

Netanyahu said that Israeli military officials are investigating the matter and will take strict and appropriate action against the offender.

He said that Israel, as a Jewish state, upholds Jewish values of “tolerance and mutual respect between Jews and worshipers of all faiths.”

He added that all religions are flourishing in Israel and that “we view members of all faiths as equals in building our society and region.”
