The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said earlier today that U.S. forces are conducting flights over and around the Strait of Hormuz to “support freedom of navigation.”
CENTCOM released images of AH-64 Apache helicopters, saying the aircraft were conducting patrols over the Strait of Hormuz yesterday.
In one of the images, two helicopters can be seen flying simultaneously over the water, and the photos appear to have been taken from another aircraft.
The Strait of Hormuz, which was reopened by Iran last night, was reportedly closed again today.
The United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports to prevent oil exports, seeking to stop any ships from entering or leaving the country’s ports.
CENTCOM said that since the start of the blockade, 23 ships have complied with U.S. instructions and turned back.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, accompanied by two destroyers, has entered the Red Sea.
