The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said early today that since the start of the naval blockade of Iranian ports, 21 ships have altered course on orders from U.S. forces and returned to Iranian ports.

CENTCOM, releasing an image of a destroyer, said the vessel was patrolling the Arabian Sea yesterday as U.S. forces enforced the naval blockade against Iran.

The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz officially began on Monday evening (April 13), and according to The Wall Street Journal, more than 15 U.S. warships were deployed early on to support the operation.

The U.S. president, despite expressing satisfaction with progress toward a potential agreement, said the blockade will continue.

The Strait of Hormuz was initially closed by Iran, which only allowed passage to vessels granted permission. Iran had denied passage to ships it considered linked to the United States and Israel.

The United States is now enforcing a naval blockade, preventing ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports.
