Israel’s Channel 12 reported “severe and unprecedented” tensions between Russia and Israel following Israeli military strikes on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant.
Sources told the outlet that Russia’s Foreign Ministry and its embassy in Israel have repeatedly contacted Israeli officials in recent weeks, warning that military activity in Bushehr could endanger civilians and Russian experts.
According to the report, a senior Kremlin official sent a letter to an Israeli official, saying: “You are placing our people in danger. This is a dangerous game that is likely to cause a major nuclear disaster, with grave implications for the Middle East. We call on you to stop.”
The report added that Israel responded by stressing that its strikes were never intended to target any Russian individuals or entities. However, Russia did not consider this sufficient and has evacuated nearly all of its personnel from the Bushehr nuclear power plant and surrounding areas.
