Donald Trump, the U.S. president, sent messages to Iran, Venezuela, Greenland, and Colombia from aboard Air Force One, issuing warnings to some of them.
Donald Trump, the U.S. president, warned Iran that if it resorts to killing protesters as it has in the past, the United States would deliver a “very severe blow.” He added that Washington is closely monitoring the demonstrations in Iran.
Speaking about Cuba, Trump said, “It seems Cuba is ready to fall. I don’t know how long they will resist.” He did not specify whether U.S. forces would be used to accelerate the government’s collapse, but he emphasized that Venezuela economically supports Cuba and that the island has survived only because of Caracas.
Trump also targeted Gustavo Petro, the president of Colombia, saying, “Colombia is also very sick; under the leadership of a sick man who likes to produce cocaine and send it to the U.S. It won’t be long before that stops.” He reiterated his interest in annexing Greenland to the United States.
These statements came less than 48 hours after the U.S. military carried out a complex operation in Caracas, detaining Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
Trump has previously warned Iran, saying that if the Islamic Republic takes violent action against “peaceful” protesters, the U.S. will intervene to “rescue” them.
His remarks have provoked strong reactions in Iran.
