The Venezuelan government said in a statement that the United States carried out attacks this morning on Caracas and three Venezuelan states.
The statement said the action constitutes a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, which emphasizes respect for sovereignty, the legal equality of states, and the prohibition of the use of force.
The Venezuelan government said such an attack threatens international peace and stability, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean, and places millions of lives at serious risk.
The statement added that the aim of the attack was to “seize strategic resources” in Venezuela, particularly its oil and minerals, and to violate its political independence by force.
Venezuela said any attempt to impose war to effect “regime change” would fail, and that the people and government are determined to defend their sovereignty and right to self-determination.
