Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that an agreement has been reached to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in the coming days.
On his X (formerly Twitter) account, Zelensky wrote, “Many decisions can be made before the New Year.”
The Kyiv Post, citing informed sources, reported that Zelensky may travel to Florida on Sunday, where Trump is spending the Christmas holidays.
Ukraine and the United States are working to agree on a 20-point peace plan to present to Russia. The plan would include strong security guarantees for Ukraine and a program for post-war reconstruction and development.
Although the two sides have agreed on most provisions, several issues, including territorial concessions, remain unresolved.
Zelensky said on Thursday that he had a “very good” discussion with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, which lasted nearly an hour.
He stated that Kyiv’s proposal is to “remain where we are” and halt the war along the current front lines, while Russia continues to demand Ukraine’s withdrawal from all of Donetsk, a region of which about a quarter remains under Kyiv’s control.
