Net Pheaktra, Cambodia’s Information Minister, announced that 12 Cambodians were killed and 74 others wounded in the country’s recent clashes with Thailand.
The Khmer Times newspaper quoted him as reporting that the Thai army had used heavy weaponry, including fighter jets and cluster bombs, in its attacks on Cambodia.
Pheaktra added that, in recent days, the Thai army had attacked civilians, residential buildings, bridges, schools, hospitals, and temples.
According to him, a total of 403,601 people in Cambodia were forced to flee their homes as of yesterday (December 14) due to the border clashes.
Thailand, in turn, has accused Cambodia of attacking civilian targets.
The Thai army announced this morning that it had destroyed 82 Cambodian positions and 175 of the country’s drones during the several days of fighting.
The border clashes between the two nations began on December 7. At that time, Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense reported that Thai armed forces had engaged in provocative actions in border areas for several days, attempting to instigate a new round of tensions. The report states that Thailand ultimately launched an attack on Cambodian army positions.
