Pakistan’s police announced that armed men attacked the headquarters of a federal paramilitary force in the city of Peshawar today (Monday, November 24).
Reuters, citing its sources, reported that three people were killed in the incident.
According to the sources, one suicide attacker detonated himself at the main gate of the compound, while a second suicide attacker entered the premises.
A security official told Reuters: “Security forces, including the army and police, have cordoned off the area and are closely monitoring the situation, as we suspect several other attackers may be inside the compound.”
The paramilitary base is located in a densely populated area near a military installation.
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack and praised the “courage” of the country’s security forces. In a statement, he said: “The externally backed Khawarij seditionists (TTP) cannot undermine Pakistan’s unity, resilience, and resolve.”
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are considered the most insecure provinces in Pakistan.
