Just hours after Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with Iran’s latest proposal for negotiations, the Fars News Agency reported, citing a senior Iranian official, that a conflict between the two countries is “likely.”

Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy inspector of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said in remarks published by Fars News Agency: “Evidence has also shown that the United States does not abide by any agreements or commitments.”

He said Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared for any “adventurism and renewed folly” by the United States. Asadi added: “Not only the armed forces and the people, but also political groups that previously had differences of opinion have now come to understand the need to maintain unity.”

Earlier, Iranian state media reported that the country had delivered its draft proposal for the resumption of negotiations to Pakistan.

Donald Trump told reporters last night that the deadlock in talks is due to “deep divisions” within Iran’s leadership.

He said: “Do we want to go and just blast the hell out of them and finish them forever? Or do we want to try and make a deal.” Trump added that, from a humanitarian perspective, he would prefer not to choose the first option.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, head of Iran’s judiciary, said on Friday that the country has “never backed away from negotiations.” However, he stressed that Iran will not accept a “dictated” peace.
