Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, responding to a report by the US State Department, said that the United States’ attack on Iran was not a defensive act.

In a post on the social media platform X today, he wrote: “‘Self-defense’ against what? Was there an ‘armed attack’ by Iran that would justify ‘self-defense’? Certainly not.”

Baghaei added that the US military attack on Iran was an “aggressive act.”

The US State Department said in a report that the country entered the conflict with Iran at the request of its ally Israel, and as part of collective defense of it. The report also stated that the decision was based on the “inherent right to self-defense.”

The US-Israel war against Iran began on February 28, 2025, and has not officially ended, although it has been halted by a ceasefire.

The United States and Israel have warned that the conflict with Iran could resume.
