Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said yesterday ( 20 April) in a press briefing that the issue of transferring Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium abroad has never been presented as an “option for Tehran” in any round of negotiations with the United States.
According to ISNA, Esmail Baghaei said: “The country’s firm position is to preserve its nuclear achievements inside Iranian territory, and the claims made in this regard are completely denied.”
In response to a question about whether lifting the naval blockade could be a precondition for future talks, he said: “You may call it a precondition or a condition, but our position is very clear and reasonable.”
Baghaei added: “Regarding the current situation, we are facing violations of the ceasefire. During the period when the truce was supposed to be in place, we have witnessed ceasefire violations in Lebanon, as well as what they claim is a naval blockade of Iran, and also an attack on a commercial vessel.”
He further said that under such circumstances, the question arises as to how one can trust U.S. claims about compromise and diplomacy.
