US officials said that an armed man in the city of Shreveport, Louisiana, killed seven of his children and another child yesterday before being shot dead by police during a pursuit.
Shreveport Police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon said that the bodies of seven people were found inside the house where the shooting took place, and the eighth child was killed while attempting to escape from the roof.
The incident has been described as domestic violence.
According to initial information, the suspect first shot his wife and then went to the house, where he killed the children.
Police said the children were between one and 14 years old.
Two women are currently being treated in hospital, and their condition is reported to be critical.
Bordelon said the suspect stole a vehicle after the shootings and was later shot and killed by police during the pursuit.
