Reuters: Israeli Strike Destroys Last Bridge Linking Southern Lebanon

Reuters, citing a senior Lebanese security official, reported that the last bridge connecting southern Lebanon with other parts of the country has been destroyed in an Israeli strike.

The official said the attack was carried out in a way that left no possibility of repairing the bridge.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last night that the country’s military continues its attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon and is on the verge of “prevailing” over the southern town of Bint Jbeil.

Reuters, citing a senior Israeli official, reported that Netanyahu is under strong pressure from Washington to agree to a ceasefire in Lebanon.

A senior U.S. official said the United States has not requested a ceasefire in Lebanon, but Donald Trump would welcome an “end to the fighting in Lebanon as part of a peace deal between Israel and Lebanon.”

Reuters, citing a Lebanese source, reported that Lebanon’s government assessment is that Israel wants to secure a victory in Bint Jbeil before any diplomatic progress takes place.

Donald Trump said that Lebanese and Israeli leaders will speak today for the first time in 34 years.

Israeli Security Cabinet member Gila Gamliel said that Benjamin Netanyahu will “for the first time in years of no contact between the two countries, speak with the President of Lebanon.”

Pakistan said that peace in Lebanon is essential for US-Iran negotiations.
