Reuters, citing four sources, reported that Iranian and US negotiating delegations may return to Islamabad in the coming days.
Al Jazeera, however, quoted a Pakistani Foreign Ministry official as saying that no date has yet been set for the Tehran–Washington talks.
This comes after the two sides’ talks in Islamabad ended on Sunday morning without reaching an agreement. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that “80% of the way had been covered,” but the delegations later encountered issues that could not be resolved immediately.
The US president said last night that “The right people, the appropriate people, called us, and they want to reach an agreement.”
Referring to these remarks by Donald Trump, a US official told Reuters that contacts between the two sides are ongoing. Reuters added that Pakistan continues to relay messages between Tehran and Washington.
