Gunmen killed four people in an attack in Iran’s Kerman province, the public relations office of the IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base said in a statement.
The incident occurred late Monday night near a checkpoint at the entrance to the Fahraj district of Kerman, according to the statement. The casualties included three members of Iran’s law enforcement forces and one civilian.
The security personnel were on duty when they came under fire. Following the attack, Iranian authorities took immediate measures to secure the area and launched an investigation into the incident, state media reported.
While Iran generally maintains a higher level of security compared to its eastern neighbors, Afghanistan and Pakistan, militant groups such as Jaish al-Adl remain active in its southeastern border regions.
