The Russian outlet RBC reports, citing its sources, that U.S. and Ukrainian delegations reached agreement on most provisions of Washington’s proposed peace plan during their meeting yesterday in Geneva.
According to the report, the provisions concerning the size of Ukraine’s armed forces, prisoner exchanges, and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant have been agreed upon.
At the same time, Reuters reports that U.S. and Ukrainian officials are discussing a possible trip by President Volodymyr Zelensky to the United States. Zelensky is expected to travel to Washington in the coming days to discuss the American peace plan with Trump.
A source said they are expected to talk about the most sensitive elements of the plan, including territorial concessions.
Ukraine and the U.S. said in a joint statement yesterday that after their talks in Geneva, they had prepared a revised peace framework.
Zelensky said today that Kyiv will continue working with its partners, including the United States, to reach a peace agreement that strengthens Ukraine rather than weakens it.
He added that Russia must pay the price for the war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president stressed: “We are now at a critical moment. The media is loud, the political pressure is strong, and the responsibility for the decisions ahead is heavy.”
Under the U.S. proposal, Ukraine would have to hand over Donbas to Russia and limit its armed forces to 600,000 personnel.
