The Taliban’s High Commission for Refugee Affairs announced that the Pakistan’s government deported 2,988 Afghan migrants yesterday (Monday, December 1st)

These individuals entered the country through the Spin Boldak, Torkham, and Bahramcha crossings.

Taliban statistics indicate that since October 23rd, 247,996 of the country’s migrants have been forcibly returned from Pakistan.

Despite the peak tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, the Pakistani government has gradually slowed down the process of deporting Afghan migrants in recent days for unclear reasons.

In the past few days, the Pakistani government was deporting around 10,000 people daily, but this figure has decreased to the point that only slightly fewer than 3,000 returned to the country yesterday.

The massive migration of Afghan citizens to Pakistan began after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. At that time, Pakistan welcomed these migrants with open arms, calling them “Islamic brothers” and “Mujahideen.”

However, the official tone of the Pakistani government toward Afghan migrants has completely changed, and these individuals are now referred to by terms such as “terrorists” and “criminals.”

Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the spokesperson for the Pakistani army, previously said: “We hosted them with open arms for decades, but some Afghan citizens are involved in criminal activities.”

United Nations statistics show that the governments of Iran and Pakistan have deported more than 4.5 million Afghan migrants from September 2023 to September 2025.
