The Taliban said that the Pakistani government deported 4,641 Afghan migrants on Wednesday (April 22).
According to the Taliban’s High Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Affairs, 4,106 of the migrants returned through the Torkham crossing, 442 through Spin Boldak, and the remaining 93 through Bahramcha.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that from the start of 2025 until about 10 days ago, more than 3.2 million Afghan migrants have returned from foreign countries.
According to the organization, around 1.2 million of them returned from Pakistan, while the rest came back from Iran.
International organizations are providing assistance to returning migrants, but due to significant funding cuts, the level of aid has sharply decreased.
The Taliban claims that the large-scale return of migrants has not created a serious problem in the country, while international organizations and field reports suggest otherwise.
