The Taliban said that Pakistan deported 3,603 Afghan migrants on Monday (April 7).
According to the Taliban’s High Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Affairs, 3,262 of the migrants entered Afghanistan via the Torkham crossing, 330 through Spin Boldak, and the remaining 11 through Bahramcha.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that since the beginning of 2025, more than 3.2 million people have returned to Afghanistan from abroad.
According to the report, 1.2 million of them have returned from Pakistan alone.
Many of the returnees had stable jobs and incomes in host countries, but are now facing increasing challenges in Afghanistan.
Rents and prices of basic goods have risen, unemployment is at a peak, and despair is spreading across the country.
Sanctions and declining international aid have worsened the situation, with the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance continuing to grow.
