Radio Pakistan reported that a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who was arrested by the country’s security forces has revealed links between the Afghan Taliban and the TTP.
The report claimed that the individual confessed to receiving military training at a camp in Paktika province.
It added that the man, identified as Amir Sohail but also known as Maulvi Haider, said he joined the TTP due to “misleading propaganda against Pakistan.”
Radio Pakistan quoted him as saying that TTP centers in Afghanistan are “fully supported by the Afghan Taliban,” and that individuals like him received financial assistance from Afghanistan and certain foreign agencies, including India’s intelligence agency RAW.
The report further said that Amir Sohail admitted involvement in attacks on security forces in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Mianwali.
Radio Pakistan quoted him as saying: “This Khwarji (TTP) group has no connection with Islam or jihad, and its members carry out terrorist activities in Pakistan only for money.”
Pakistan has repeatedly alleged that Afghan soil is being used against it, an accusation the Taliban has rejected.
