Refugee Rights Watch, in a statement, called on international bodies — particularly the United Nations and world governments — to prevent Pakistan from deporting Afghan refugees who had previously been living in “Argentina Park.”
The organization said that Pakistani police have mistreated these refugees and must immediately halt the arrest of both them and other Afghan migrants.
According to the statement, these refugees fled hardship in search of safety and stability in Pakistan, and their basic human rights must be respected while they are in that country.
Yesterday, refugees who had been living in Argentina Park in Islamabad told Deeyar TV that Pakistani police beat them and then transferred them to the “Haji Camp” facility.
Refugee Rights Watch said that these individuals include women, children, and the elderly, and that they have no alternative shelter. Sources told the organization that some refugees residing in Argentina Park had been beaten by Pakistani police.
According to the organization, police told these refugees they would be moved to another location, but the refugees fear the real intention is to deport them to Afghanistan.
Refugee Rights Watch stated that this situation puts individuals at severe risk and highlights the urgent need for international attention.
Knowledgeable sources told Deeyar yesterday that Pakistani police transferred the refugees from Argentina Park to the Haji Camp facility in preparation for their deportation to Afghanistan.
Most of these refugees are civil activists, former Afghan government employees, and staff of international organizations in Afghanistan.
