Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, left for Turkey today (Tuesday, November 24) at the head of a delegation to attend the ECO ministerial meeting on trade.

The ministry said in a statement that Azizi will also take part in the opening ceremony of the Halal Expo 2025 during the trip.

According to the statement, he is set to meet members of Turkey’s private sector to attract investment to Afghanistan.

The Taliban had earlier said that Cenk Ünal, Turkey’s ambassador in Kabul, invited Azizi to join the fifth ECO trade ministers’ meeting.

The gathering is scheduled to be held in Istanbul.

Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan are members of the ECO.

In recent days, Azizi has also traveled to Iran and India, with the stated aim of expanding trade relations with those countries.
