Ahmed al-Sharaa, the current leader of Syria, said the country has been exhausted in recent years, with its people displaced and subjected to “chemical weapons attacks.”
Speaking today at the Antalya Forum, he said: “Therefore, keeping Syria away from any new conflicts is the natural and correct path.”
He said the country had previously been exposed to “Iranian aggression,” during a period in which, according to him, Tehran supported the Assad regime in its confrontation with the Syrian people.
Al-Sharaa added: “Despite this, we did not enter the conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Even before the war began, we tried to prevent it .”
He said Syria continues to emphasize regional stability and views dialogue and diplomacy as the main tools for resolving disputes and avoiding escalation.
“We are shaping a new chapter for Syria, transforming it from a conduit for conflict into a platform for sustainable investment opportunities,” he said, adding that the country has also contributed to regional stability by preventing external actors from using its territory for attacks or destabilization.
Al-Sharaa reiterated that any recognition of Israel’s claim over the Golan Heights is unacceptable, stressing that the international community considers the territory Syrian land occupied by Israel.
