Pakistan’s Interior Minister has strongly condemned Taliban attacks on “residential areas” in Angoor Ada in South Waziristan, saying that attacks on civilians constitute a “serious violation” of international humanitarian law and are unacceptable under any circumstances.
Mohsin Naqvi also stressed that targeting “innocent women and children” by the Taliban and TTP is a “highly inhumane act” and a “clear violation” of the human rights charter.
He further emphasized that Pakistan’s security forces are responding firmly to what he called the “unprovoked aggression” by the Afghan Taliban.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that Taliban forces fired across the border into South Waziristan on Sunday and Wednesday, leaving several civilians, including women and children, injured.
Pakistani media reported that a total of eight people were wounded in the two incidents.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi also condemned what he called the Taliban’s “unprovoked firing” and called for it to stop immediately.
He said Pakistan stands with the affected families and is taking “all possible measures” to prevent such incidents.
In recent days, clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan have intensified again, with both sides accusing each other of targeting civilians.
The Taliban have said that the Pakistani army carried out attacks on residential areas and a university in Kunar, killing seven people and injuring around 80 others.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said that dozens of civilians were killed and injured in the Kunar attack, but it did not provide details on the number of casualties or who was responsible.
