The Taliban Foreign Ministry said yesterday that it summoned Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul and handed over its protest note regarding Pakistani military strikes on Afghanistan.
In a statement, the ministry warned that if Pakistani attacks continue, “undesirable consequences” will be the responsibility of Islamabad.
The statement said the Taliban strongly condemned violations of Afghanistan’s airspace and attacks on civilians, calling them a clear violation of the country’s territorial integrity, contrary to international principles, and a provocative act.
It added that the Taliban strongly rejected claims that it initiated the attacks first, stressing that “the roots of this situation must be carefully examined.”
The Foreign Ministry reiterated that the Taliban reserves the right to defend Afghanistan’s territory and its people.
The group urged Pakistan to stop its attacks on Afghanistan.
According to the Taliban, the Pakistani army carried out strikes in Kunar yesterday, killing at least 7 people and injuring 85 others.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said that “dozens” of civilians were killed and injured in the Kunar attacks.
