Sirajuddin Haqqani said in a meeting with China’s ambassador to Afghanistan that the Taliban are focused on addressing Afghanistan’s problems and ensuring the well-being of its people.
The Taliban’s Interior Ministry said in a statement yesterday morning that Haqqani met with Zhao Xing, China’s ambassador in Kabul.
According to the statement, the two sides discussed expanding relations between the Taliban and China.
The statement added that China’s efforts regarding regional issues were acknowledged during the meeting, and it was emphasized that the Taliban seek overall stability.
China does not formally recognize the Taliban government, but it has accepted their ambassador and maintains diplomatic, economic, and political ties with the group.
China has repeatedly mediated between the Taliban and Pakistan, with its latest efforts reportedly helping to nearly halt clashes between the two former allies.
