The Taliban Ministry of Information and Culture said in a statement that a new archaeological site, named “Bamian,” has been identified and registered in the Anaba district of Panjshir province.

According to the statement, the Taliban director of information and culture in Panjshir visited the site along with a delegation.

The official said the “Bamian” archaeological site is located in the village of Zaman Kor, and local residents believe it dates back to the pre-Islamic period.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the site was likely a military center during the Kushan era, used to secure the Silk Road and caravan routes between northern and southern regions.

The Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture in Panjshir said that similar sites have previously been identified and registered in other parts of the Panjshir Valley.

Local Taliban officials emphasized the need to send a specialized team of archaeologists from the Ministry of Information and Culture for further study.
