Former President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, in a message marking the start of the new academic year, said that restrictions on women’s and girls’ work and education could cause irreparable damage to the country’s stability and progress.
He added that these limitations are increasingly leaving the people in Afghanistan more vulnerable and powerless day by day.
Karzai called for schools and universities to be reopened to girls and for opportunities for women to work and actively participate in society, so that “our beloved country can move toward development.”
He emphasized that the education of all children, both girls and boys, is vital for progress, empowerment, self-reliance, and a life with dignity.
Karzai also urged all students to use every available means to pursue knowledge and achieve high academic excellence.
Unlike many former political figures, Karzai chose not to emigrate and remained in the country, which is now governed by those he once referred to as “brothers.”
Over the years, Karzai has repeatedly raised his voice in support of women’s and girls’ rights, seizing every opportunity to advocate for them.
