The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan has announced that between 6,000 and 7,000 people return from Iran to Afghanistan daily through the Islam Qala border, and health teams screen them for tuberculosis (TB).
According to the agency, last year 203 people out of every 100,000 in Afghanistan were diagnosed with TB, indicating that the disease remains one of the country’s major challenges.
In 2025, the UNDP and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria tested more than 650,000 people and provided support to over 50,000 patients.
On the occasion of World TB Day, the agency added that it remains committed to eradicating the disease in Afghanistan.
