Italy’s Foreign Ministry reported that information received from Swiss authorities indicates that approximately 40 people were killed in an explosion during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Switzerland.
Swiss authorities have not released exact casualty figures but reported that “dozens” were killed and roughly 100 others were injured.
The explosion, whose cause remains unknown, occurred around 1:30 a.m. local time at the “Le Constellation” bar in southwestern Switzerland.
Officials told Sky News that they are not treating the incident as a terrorist attack.
Some of the victims are foreign nationals.
Many of those who suffered burns are receiving medical treatment, and authorities have said that the condition of most of the injured is serious.
