A spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Parwan province announced that the Salang Highway has been closed to all traffic due to a severe storm and continuous snowfall.
Hekmatullah Shamim wrote on his X page that the highway will remain closed until further notice and urged the public to avoid attempting to travel along the route.
The Salang Highway is highly sensitive to weather changes, and despite reconstruction efforts, it is blocked several times each year.
With the onset of winter, other provinces are also facing challenges. Some individuals in the Karkh district of Herat have encountered difficulties due to flooding, and the Taliban have strongly advised the public to refrain from traveling in the area.
The Taliban governor’s office in Herat said that teams from the group’s Public Works Department are working with available resources to address the problem.
