In a joint statement, 56 nations condemned the “systematic and widespread” violations of human rights committed by the Taliban.

The nations, speaking on the sidelines of the U.N. Security Council meeting on Afghanistan, stated that women and girls in Afghanistan are living under a system built on segregation and deprivation that holds no regard for their dignity.

These countries urged the Taliban to immediately repeal all policies that lead to the systematic violation and abuse of the human rights of the Afghan people, especially women and girls.

Among the countries that issued this declaration are Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Norway, Pakistan, Palestine, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
