The Taliban’s High Commission for Refugee Affairs announced that the Pakistani government deported 3,391 Afghan migrants yesterday (Wednesday, December 3rd)
These individuals returned to the country through the Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings.
Taliban statistics show that 256,479 Afghan migrants have been forcibly returned from Pakistan since November 2nd.
The process of deporting Afghan migrants from Pakistan began in 2023, when accusations against these migrants intensified, and they were mainly introduced as ‘criminals,’ ‘smugglers,’ and ‘terrorists.’
Decades of war and instability sent millions of Afghan citizens to Iran and Pakistan. Initially, these two countries welcomed the newly arrived migrants, referring to them as ‘religious brothers,’ but in recent years, suspicions towards them have increased, and the process of their expulsion has been put on the agenda.
According to the United Nations, over 4.5 million Afghan migrants have returned from these two countries from September 2023 to September 2025.
