Officials in Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka say floods and landslides have left 462 people dead across the three countries.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency reported 248 deaths and more than 500 injuries. Suharyanto, the agency’s chief, warned that the toll may rise as search operations are still underway.

Sri Lanka’s disaster management authority said 69 people have been confirmed dead and 34 others are missing.

According to the Thai government, 145 people were killed in one of the most devastating floods to hit the country’s south.

In recent days, monsoon rains caused rivers to overflow in Indonesia, destroying mountain villages and submerging thousands of homes and buildings.

Indonesia’s disaster agency said nearly 3,000 displaced families have taken shelter in government facilities.

Access to affected areas has been severely hampered by destroyed roads and disrupted communications, forcing authorities to deliver aid by air.

Heavy machinery is urgently needed to recover those still trapped under debris in Agam, Sumatra. In just three villages in Agam, 78 people remain missing.
