he German Press Agency (DPA) has reported that Afghan refugees in Pakistan will be relocated to Germany with delays.
Germany’s Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt, presented a report today in a session of the Bundestag regarding these Afghan refugees who possess official acceptance letters.
According to several participants in this closed-door meeting, cited by DPA, the relocation of Afghan refugees may be delayed until January or February 2026.
This comes despite Pakistan’s earlier statement that Germany must relocate Afghan refugees by the end of 2025; otherwise, all of them will be deported to Afghanistan.
Several groups of Afghan refugees have already been transferred from Pakistan to Germany on regular commercial flights, and according to DPA citing Dobrindt, charter flights may again be used in the future.
These refugees are staying in guesthouses in Islamabad, and Pakistan has previously deported some of them back to Afghanistan.
Nearly 1,900 Afghan nationals are awaiting resettlement in Germany under various admission programs. Among them are former local staff members of Germany and their families.
The Green Party has called on the German government to honor its commitments toward these refugees. The party has previously described the offer of cash in exchange for relocation to Germany for some refugees as “insulting.”
Sahra Gambir, a member of the Bundestag’s Internal Affairs Committee, said: “Even if a single person suffers harm because of the minister’s irresponsibility, merely admitting a mistake will not be enough. In that case, there must be consequences.”
Germany’s new government has so far relocated dozens of Afghan refugees from Islamabad in six separate transfers.
