The National Security Committee of Tajikistan has announced that, for the first time, it targeted Afghan drug traffickers using a drone.

According to reports from Tajik media, the country’s border forces blocked the illegal entry of a group of seven Afghan traffickers on the night of November 20.

Reports say that two traffickers were killed in the operation and 116 packets of narcotics were seized.

The National Security Committee stated that “this is the first time in the record of the border forces that an operation has been carried out using domestically produced drones.”

It remains unclear whether the remaining traffickers were arrested or managed to escape.

Although the Taliban claims it is preventing the cultivation, production, and trafficking of narcotics, neighboring countries—including Iran, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan—have repeatedly said that drugs are being illegally smuggled from Afghanistan into their territories.

Tajikistan has previously targeted Afghan traffickers attempting to smuggle drugs into the country.
