Dutch media report that Anoosh Dastgir, the former head coach of Afghanistan’s national football team, has been appointed head coach of the Netherlands U-18 side.
The 35-year-old previously served as interim manager at Almere City FC in the Eredivisie.
Dastgir, who has taken a long path to this role, told Dutch media: “I will certainly share my story with these young talents.”
He has often said he hopes Afghanistan will one day have a professional, well-structured football league.
In his latest Facebook post, he wrote: “If I can create a place anywhere in Afghanistan where children can play, be happy, and forget their pain for a moment, that will be the day I consider myself a truly successful coach.”
