The Pakistan Army has announced that on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 28 and 29), it killed 13 members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) while they were attempting to cross from Afghanistan into Pakistani territory.

In a statement issued last night, the army described the militants as being backed by India and said their actions once again confirmed Pakistan’s position regarding what it called the Taliban’s “clear failure” to meet commitments on effectively managing the Durand Line.

According to the statement, in the Mohmand region, security forces identified a group of militants attempting to infiltrate Pakistan and engaged them in a clash, killing eight militants.

In a separate incident in North Waziristan, five TTP members were killed.

The Pakistan Army called on the Taliban to fulfill their commitments and prevent militants from using Afghan territory against Pakistan or allowing Afghan citizens to participate in militant activities in the country.

The statement added that Pakistani security forces remain committed to defending the country’s borders and that clearance operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants.

It also said that the fight against terrorism will continue until what it described as the “foreign-backed” phenomenon is eradicated.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister praised the country’s security forces for thwarting the militants’ attempt to enter from Afghanistan.

Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistani forces had “foiled and dismantled the enemy’s nefarious plans.”
