The United Nations has again warned that continued clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan are putting already vulnerable people at risk, worsening humanitarian needs, and increasing the suffering of civilians.

The UN called on both the Taliban and Pakistan to adhere to their obligations under international humanitarian law and stressed that civilians must be protected at all times.

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said that humanitarian partners have reported exchanges of fire between the Taliban and Pakistan over the past two days. According to reports, parts of Kunar province—including a student dormitory, a fuel tanker, and a drug rehabilitation center—have been damaged in the attacks.

Citing officials at a hospital in Asadabad, Kunar, Dujarric said at least seven people were killed and 79 others wounded, including 13 women and 32 children.

He added that the clashes have displaced more than 100,000 people in Afghanistan, and that the United Nations, along with its humanitarian partners, is present on the ground providing assistance to those in need.

The UN spokesperson said assessments have been conducted in 45 affected districts, identifying more than 115,000 people in need of aid.
