Bahrain Sentences Two Afghan Nationals to Life Imprisonment on Espionage Charges

The Attorney General of Bahrain said in a statement yesterday that the country has sentenced three Bahraini nationals and two Afghan citizens to life imprisonment on espionage charges.

According to the statement, they cooperated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to carry out “hostile foreign entities against the Kingdom of Bahrain and to harm its interests.”

No further details were provided regarding the identities of the Afghan nationals who were tried.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the matter.

Gulf countries were repeatedly targeted by Tehran during the US and Israeli war against Iran, according to the report.

However, none of these countries entered into direct conflict.

Still, they have arrested and prosecuted dozens of individuals on charges of cooperation with or espionage for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
