Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Alireza Bigdeli, described relations between Tehran and the Taliban as “stable and expanding,” adding that water-related issues between the two sides are being resolved through practical agreements.

He said that no serious threat is observed from Afghanistan against Iran and that the Afghan public holds a positive view of Iran.

Speaking earlier today at a session of the Zanjan Chamber of Commerce in Iran, Bigdeli said that border issues with the Taliban are also being addressed peacefully and through mutual cooperation, and that effective coordination exists in dealing with security threats.

According to Mehr News Agency, he also proposed measures such as making use of Afghan businessmen residing in Iran.

The issue of water rights has been a point of contention in Taliban–Iran relations for several years, with Tehran repeatedly complaining that the Taliban does not allow sufficient water flow into Iran.

Recently, Abdul Hamid, a prominent Sunni cleric in Iran, said that the Taliban had allowed water to flow into the country.
