The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will hold a joint meeting in October this year on security issues related to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
Taalatbek Masadykov, Secretary-General of the CSTO, raised the matter today at a session of the organization’s parliamentary assembly.
He had previously said that the three organizations would hold such a meeting in 2026, but did not provide a specific date at the time.
It is still unclear on which exact day the meeting will take place.
Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan are member states of the CSTO. Russia holds the rotating chairmanship of the organization this year.
The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has nine members, including Central Asian countries except Turkmenistan, as well as Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.
