Taliban local officials in Herat said the death toll from an attack in Injil district has risen to 11. They added that one suspect has been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to identify all those responsible for the incident.
Ahmadullah Muttaqi, head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Herat, said that around 3 p.m. yesterday (Friday, April 10), unidentified armed men opened fire on several families who had gone to “Deh Mehr” village in Injil district for recreation.
Muttaqi added that four people were initially killed, while seven others later died in Herat provincial hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
He said eight injured people are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Taliban police command has promised to bring those responsible to “the grip of the law.”
The incident highlights that, contrary to Taliban claims, the group faces challenges in ensuring public security in the country.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
