Taliban police in Herat said in a statement that a suspect has been arrested in connection with yesterday’s shooting in Injil district, and that efforts are ongoing to identify and detain “other perpetrators” of the incident.

The statement did not specify the exact number of casualties, but the Taliban Interior Ministry spokesperson previously confirmed that seven people were killed and 13 others injured. Abdul Mateen Qani said the incident occurred in the afternoon at a “recreational” site, adding that some of the injured are in critical condition.

Taliban police in Herat said: “In a cowardly incident in Deh Mehr village… Arbab Sultan Ahmad and several of our innocent compatriots, who were civilians, were martyred and several others were injured.”

The statement added that Naqibullah Azizi, the Taliban police commander in Herat, has directly ordered security officials to identify those responsible for the deadly incident and bring them to “the grip of the law.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
