The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) said in a statement that its Secretary-General held detailed talks yesterday (10 April) with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on the situation in Afghanistan.
According to the statement, the two sides reviewed efforts to strengthen the shared border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, as well as the organization’s program in this regard.
Both sides emphasized the exceptional importance of the CSTO’s initiative to reinforce the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border for Central Asia and the organization’s member states.
They also exchanged views on other issues, expressing hope that the conflict in the Middle East and other armed clashes affecting the CSTO’s area of responsibility would be resolved through diplomatic means.
The Afghanistan–Tajikistan border has witnessed several security incidents in recent months, raising concerns in Dushanbe.
